黑料社 (ODU) is proud to announce the launch of a new campuswide recycling program, made possible through a grant from the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). This initiative represents an important step forward in ODU鈥檚 ongoing efforts to care for the environment and promote sustainability.

The program introduced 66 new recycling receptacles across campus with an initial goal of a 25% reduction in landfill waste. This partnership between SWACO and ODU supports the university鈥檚 mission as a Laudato Si鈥 campus, reinforcing the commitment made to Pope Francis鈥 call to better care for the planet and one another. By integrating sustainable practices like recycling into daily campus life, ODU continues to take steps toward its goals of environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

This partnership between SWACO and ODU highlights the important roles institutions and individuals play in addressing environmental concerns.

鈥淐entral Ohio鈥檚 higher education institutions are a critical partner in SWACO鈥檚 long term efforts to increase the diversion of materials from the landfill because they have a direct line to our community鈥檚 next generation and can help to establish good recycling and waste reduction behaviors,鈥 said Joe Lombardi, SWACO鈥檚 executive director. 鈥淲e applaud the university and its mission to care for the planet and one another and are pleased to be able to support those efforts.鈥

The ODU Community can get involved by using the blue recycling bins placed around campus. Accepted recyclables include paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, metal cans and cups, and cartons. Please avoid bagging recyclables, and ensure items are free of food and liquid. Labels on containers do not need to be removed, but plastic bottles should be crushed with their caps on. Remember to flatten cardboard boxes before recycling.
